Masos d’en Ferran de Cal Pigat is a property at an altitude of 405 meters located in Masos d’en Ferran, the warmest area of Porrera. Josep Maria is the one who works it. “My great-great-grandparents, who were sharecroppers, started bringing it. Then they were hit by phylloxera around 1890 and started replanting in the lower part, there in the middle where they are now, and they went up. In 1900 we have the property deed, they went from being sharecroppers to buying it,” he explains.

It’s a property with a lot of history, 5 generations working on it. “Those vines over there and from another area are about 120 years old. They are the oldest vines I have.” Josep Maria is a medium-sized farmer. “My father was a farmer, and I have followed in his footsteps. More than 100 years and 5 generations.”

“This property’s special feature is that it has many orientations. From here where we are to over there in front, it’s completely different, and there’s not even a hundred meters. It is northeast-facing and very sunny, but in the afternoon, in July-August, it begins to get shade and the sea breeze, which cools down the afternoons a lot.”
