La Coma d’en Romeu de Cal Fusteret is a estate located in the area of Coma d’en Romeu, next to Terracuques. It is located at 450 meters above sea level, is 100% Carignan, and has slate soil.

Pepe Olmedo is the one who works it. The estate belonged to his late father-in-law, Josep Fusteret. When we ask him when the vineyard was planted, he says he doesn’t know. “It was planted a long time ago, I don’t know exactly, I think around 1910. But neither my father-in-law nor his father planted it. This was already here before.”

He tells us that the estate has a history. “This estate has always been in the family. My father-in-law’s mother and brother were orphans from a very young age, so the past history of the estate is somewhat lost. They were left without a home or anything, only with this inherited vineyard, which has always remained in the family.” Josep’s mother got married at Cal Fusteret. In the photograph, Francisco Vall from Cal Fusteret and Concepción, with Pepe’s father-in-law, the young Josep Fusteret.

La Coma faces east. “It’s a very good orientation. At least that’s what I’ve been taught: grapes don’t get as many diseases as they do in the westerly wind. The sun has a hard time getting in here, but then it’s here until the last hour.”
